In safe spaces, we don’t just heal — we remember how to grow…
Equinox Wellbeing is founded by Malinda Um, a registered Australian Social Worker with extensive experience working with diverse populations and presentations.
Malinda founded Equinox Wellbeing as a space where people from all walks of life could feel safe to explore, heal, and reconnect with themselves. She is an Accredited Social Worker with over ten years of experience supporting individuals, couples, and communities across clinical, education, and humanitarian settings.
Malinda’s career has spanned from counselling in educational settings to working on the frontlines of emergency humanitarian responses. She has provided therapeutic support and counselling in clinical settings to refugees and asylum seekers, with a special focus on survivors of torture and trauma. Malinda is deeply passionate about supporting women and young people to reconnect with their inner strengths, access their own resources, and reclaim their agency to create meaningful change in their lives.
Passionate about mental health as a human right, Malinda is an advocate for accessible, inclusive care. She brings a strong community focus to her work, underpinned by collaboration, cultural humility, and social justice. She has worked closely with minority communities impacted by trauma and violence, supporting them to take ownership of their healing while strengthening connections within their communities.
Her approach is trauma-informed, compassionate, and grounded in evidence-based practice, including CBT, DBT, ACT, Narrative Therapy, and somatic-informed techniques.
At Equinox Wellbeing, we believe that access to mental health care is a right, not a privilege. We recognise that some individuals and families in Doha may face barriers to accessing support, including financial hardship. To help bridge this gap, subsidised sessions are available, including online counselling and advocacy support. All enquiries are handled with care and confidentiality, you’re welcome to reach out through the contact form to learn more.
Getting Started
You don’t need a referral to see a therapist, you can simply book in.
Finding the right therapist is about fit, think about what you’d like support with, and don’t hesitate to reach out if you’d like guidance.
What to Expect
After you book your session, you’ll receive a quick email to confirm the details. At your first appointment, your therapist will take time to understand your story, what’s important to you, and the goals you’d like to work on. They’ll then share some initial thoughts and suggest a plan for moving forward.
It’s completely normal to feel a little nervous, therapy is all about building trust and finding a pace that feels right for you. You can start when you’re ready and always share feedback so your sessions feel truly supportive and tailored to your needs.
